Poke Acupuncture is the creation of husband-and-wife co-founders, Ryan Samuels and Lani Stokes. Both are accredited and qualified practitioners, each with over 5,000 hours of training and many years of experience.
Ryan and Lani first met as Chinese Medicine students in British Columbia, Canada more than 10 years ago. In 2017, they proudly opened their purpose-built Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Centre in Lambton, near Newcastle, NSW.
Both Ryan and Lani believe in taking a patient-centred approach, and providing individualised healthcare, focused on helping you to achieve your optimum health.
Lani was first exposed to acupuncture and Chinese medicine during regular visits to Sydney as a small child. With her Chinese heritage, Lani feels she was fortunate to experience relief from her childhood skin conditions, brought by the skilled application of acupuncture and Chinese herbs.
Her interest in health and wellness, family heritage, and personal experiences, led Lani to study Chinese Medicine. She holds a five-year Diploma of Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences in Nelson, B.C., Canada and has a background in Mandarin and psychology.
After 16 years in Canada, Lani returned to her hometown of Newcastle to establish the Poke Acupuncture clinic in Lambton.
Lani’s treatments are patient-focused, with an emphasis on comfort and customised, raw, medicinal teas. Lani’s professional interests include treating dermatological conditions, pregnancy and post-partum care.
Born and raised in Western Canada, Ryan relocated to Newcastle in 2016 with his wife, Lani, and their new daughter.
Ryan began his healthcare career in 2002 as a remedial massage therapist, but became interested in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine after being successfully treated for rock climbing injuries, and illnesses while living in Asia.
