Constipation is a frustrating and sometimes painful condition involving infrequent and difficulty in passing stools, or the desire to have a bowel movement without the ability to. The stools may be hard, dry and pebble like or normal. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) a “normal” bowel movement is considered to be at least one unforced stool everyday or every second day.
Constipation is typically a byproduct of poor diet and eating habits, stress or a sedentary lifestyle. Some sufferers may experience constipation for extended periods of time.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine may help to improve overall digestion function and aid in constipation relief.
Indigestion is a very common digestive complaint that can be experienced over the short or long term. Common symptoms include: bloating or a feeling of fullness in the upper abdomen, belching, reflux or burning in the stomach, reduced appetite and passing gas.
Indigestion is often triggered by poor diet habits such as eating irregularly, eating in a rush or eating heavy difficult to digest foods. Stress can also be a trigger with the symptoms developing around stressful times of life.
Our approach to indigestion and its related symptoms typically includes a combination of nutritional therapy and guidance, acupuncture and customized herbal medicines.
Nausea - having the urge to vomit - is unpleasant at best. When it causes vomiting, it can lead to dehydration and fatigue. Nausea often accompanies other health complaints, particularly migraine headaches. It can also result from contemporary cancer and chemotherapy treatments.
Acupressure may be combined with acupuncture therapy to assist in the management of nausea arising from pregnancy and chemotherapy treatment.
